The long wait is over.

Months after teasing the motoring public at the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), Suzuki Philippines has officially brought the all-new Jimny to the country. Featuring a bolder, retro-inspired look inside and out, a more powerful engine, as well as plenty of new technologies, Suzuki's tiny 4x4 is out to prove that good things still come in small packages.

Gone are the round curves and bland shapes of the third-generation Jimny, as the all-new 4x4 went for a retro-modern look. It keeps the boxy shape from before but now has styling elements from past Jimny models. The front fascia gets circular headlights, a beefy front bumper, and a five-slot front grill finished in matte black. Flared wheel arches, along with 15-inch alloy wheels further give the 4x4 its macho and cutesy look. In keeping with the previous generation, the 2019 Jimny still comes with a rear spare tire carrier at the back. Finally, the vertical taillights have been replaced by horizontal units.

In terms of size, the new 4x4 measures 3,650mm long (including spare tire carrier), 1645mm wide and 1720mm tall. This makes the new-generation Jimny 45mm shorter in length but wider and taller by 45mm and 15mm, respectively. Wheelbase remains the same at 2250mm however. Apart from those, the tiny 4x4 also comes with an improved 210mm ground clearance (+20).

Like the exterior, the cabin of the all-new Jimny has received a makeover as well. It gets a rugged, yet straightforward design that is simple, functional, and practical. It blends old and new designs that are then complemented by hard-wearing materials on the dashboard, door panels and center console. A new multi-function steering wheel, along with retro-style gauges round up the new look of the Jimny.

Dominating the center dash is a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It comes with AM/FM radio, USB, Aux, Bluetooth, smartphone MirrorLink, and navigation (dealer option). Besides providing in-car entertainment, the touchscreen display also has an off-road function. Available only on the top-spec GLX, it comes with a clinometer, compass, altimeter, and even a barometer that can show real-time data while on the go.

Depending on the variant, the new Jimny is available with either manual air-conditioning or an automatic climate control. Meanwhile, all of the seats are covered in fabric and are equipped with 3-point seatbelts. As for luggage space, the Jimny can carry 85-liters worth of cargo when the 50:50 rear seats are deployed. Fold them down however, and the 4x4 is capable of carrying 377 liters worth.

Other available extras on the all-new Jimny include cruise control, reverse camera, automatic headlamp leveling, LED headlights with headlight washers, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Gone is the old 1.3-liter M13A four-cylinder under the hood. Replacing it is a new 1.5-liter K15B inline-four. Unlike the old engine which only produced 84 PS and 110 Nm of torque, the newer motor delivers more with 102 PS at 6000 rpm along with 130 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. It's available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. All variants come with the new All-Grip Pro 4WD system that can be set to 2WD, 4WD-High or 4WD-Low.
