Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), marketer of the Caltex fuel and lubricants in the country, has collaborated with Gawad Kalinga (GK) and the Junior Chamber International Manila (JCI) to build the Caltex Playland in Smokey Mountain.

The Caltex Playland aims to make learning more fun for about 700 pre-school children in Smokey Mountain. CPI says it is an interactive learn-through-play area to teach children about safety, hardwork, excellence and creativity.

“The idea is to create a safe and a more playful environment that will help the kids learn, hope and dream for more in their life. We simply lack the resources to get the vital tools they need for learning. I’m just so glad that Chevron came to help,” said Delia Valenzuela, Gawad Kalinga volunteer teacher.

There were at least 105 volunteers composed of Chevron employess, project partners, parents, teachers and students who worked together to create the Caltex Playland. In addition, CPI donated PHP 150,000 in materials and skilled labor, while JCI and GK handed PHP 400,000.

Chevron employees also did their share by donating PHP 25,000 in cash and 35 sets of school supplies, 26 sports equipment, 108 toys, 335 children books and other educational materials.
