Pickups are designed to haul, so it's no surprise that they need torque-rich engines to get the job done. But for those who need something that could tow, haul, carry, and lug all that weight without resorting to a truck, Ford may have the answer for them.

For 2020, Ford shoved a massive 7.3-liter V8 into the heavily facelifted Super Duty, claiming it to be the most powerful eight-cylinder in its class. That's more than three times bigger than the new 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel in the recently facelifted Ranger Wildtrak.

While Ford claims to be the most powerful gas-fed V8 pickup in the business, they didn't bring up figures. But if its competitors are anything to go by, it could have over 410 PS under the massive hood. For comparison basis, the recently introduced Chevrolet Silverado HD makes 406 PS from its 6.6-liter V8 while the Ram 3500's 6.4-liter V8 puts out 410 PS. Yes, we now live in an era where pickups now pack that much power.

With carrying and pulling loads being the priority in pickups, torque is just as important as power. Again, Ford did not release figures but putting it side by side will help us to realize just how strong the 7.3-liter V8 could be. The Silverado HD puts out 629 Nm of torque and the Ram 3500 has 581. We reckon Ford's massive V8 is closer to the 650 Nm range. Like most new Ford pickups, the Super Duty shifts via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

But for those who plan to tow a small moon out of orbit, the Power Stroke turbodiesel has been given a boot. Sadly, there are no figures for this one either so it's all up to speculation at this point. Before the update, the 6.7-liter V8 diesel made 456 PS and a staggering 1,268 Nm of torque. However, the new Ram 3500 has its pulling power rated at 1,356 Nm, so it seems possible will at least try to match that.

As for the pickup itself, it gets new grill designs, along with the availability of LED headlights. And while it may not look like it, Ford says that the front bumper has been redesigned to enhance aerodynamics, along with improving airflow to the cooling system. There are various body styles available for the 2020 Super Duty. There's the two-door Regular Cab, the Super Cab (extended cab design), and the Super Crew (four-door crew cab style). Models range from F-250, all the way to F-450 with dual real wheels.
