The all-new Wrangler wasn't the only SUV that Jeep Philippines showed recently. Making a comeback in the Philippine market is the Cherokee. That's right, the compact crossover has returned and will be available at all Jeep dealerships in the coming months.
Refreshed for the 2019 model year, the updated Cherokee was first revealed at the 2018 North American International Show. Shown alongside the all-new Wrangler, the Cherokee displayed was a 4x4 Longitude model.
Gone are the polarizing looks of the Cherokee as Jeep gave it an exterior makeover. The front fascia now has contemporary-styled headlights and a sleeker front bumper. The front grill is not as pointy as before, but it does keep the iconic seven-slot grill which gives the Cherokee its rugged appearance. As for the rear, it gets new 'smoked' LED taillights, a reshaped tailgate, a sportier rear bumper and a repositioned license plate holder.
Inside the 2019 Cherokee, the changes are far more subtle. A new set of gauges can be seen on the instrument panel, along with a bigger Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system. There are also new trim pieces installed, along with revised HVAC controls and center console.
Under the hood, the Cherokee is powered by a 2.4-liter MultiAir2 inline-four engine that is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Exact output figures have yet to be revealed but it is highly likely that the engine still produces the same amount of power as before: 184 PS with 232 Nm of torque. Beyond that, a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine could also be offered as well.
Pricing, as well as specification, are still subject to change according to Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Jeep in the Philippines. Full details, along with the final price list is expected to be revealed some time in June 2019.
