The first Mercedes-Benz Plug-In Hybrid car
Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid packed with unique innovations and luxurious equipment of the S-Class.
"The new S550 Plug-In Hybrid offers our customers the entire range of innovations that make our new S-Class so successful, and thanks to its intelligent operating strategy ensures outstanding driving pleasure and dynamism combined with the highest efficiency,” said Ola Källenius, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The German automaker says the exterior styling of the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid is “sleek and atheletic.” Up front, it is fitted with LED High Performance headlights, large chrome grill and a muscular bumper. The side profile of the vehicle has flowing lines and chrome insert that adds to the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid's sleek styling. The rear is equipped with LED tailights and a bumper that houses a pair of chrome exhaust pipes.
Inside, the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid is adorned with white colored interior theme along with leather upholstery and aluminum accents. It also features a touchpad, dual-zone automatic climate control and memory package for driver and front passenger. The steering wheel comes with various audio and phone controls. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz offers a choice of seven ambient lighting colors.
The automaker says the vehicle includes basic safety features such as the collision prevention assist , attention assist and crosswind assist.
The 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that gets additional power from an 8.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and an 85 kW electric motor. With this, the total power output of the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid is 442 PS and 649 Nm of torque.
The battery of the 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid is fitted into the rear end of the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz says is has an on-board charging system that enables the battery to be charged at any conventional household power socket.
The 2015 S550 Plug-In Hybrid can go from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and can travel a distance of 32 km with the electric motor alone. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
