Foton joins the PUV revolution with their latest concept
As the PUV Modernization Act continues to gain momentum, Foton joins the public transport revolution with their latest concept. Simply dubbed the Foton Jeepney, it follows the current parameters set by the LTFRB and the Philippine Truck Manufacturers Association.
The Foton Jeepney was presented during the LTO Motor Show held late last month. Measuring in at just under 6,000 mm long, the truck manufacturer's concept fits right into the dimension requirements. The vehicle's body was built in cooperation with Centro Manufacturing Corp., one of the body fabricators putting input for the modernization program. Also, the Foton Jeepney rides on the Tornado light duty truck platform.
"Foton has made sure that these models comply with the standards set forth by the DOTr's PUV Modernization Program. This is Foton's prototype of our version of the Euro 4 jeepney, and we are currently in the process of producing more options of different size and specifications," said Rommel Sytin, president of Foton Philippines.
In line with the provisions, the Foton Jeepney features side-facing passenger seats and open air windows with awnings. It also offers standing room capacity to further maximize the space inside. Room lamps are also part of the package, as well as a working Beep card reader system employing a tap-in-tap-out scheme. As it is meant to replace the traditional jeepney, it is likely that Foton's concept will be classified under PUV Class 2.
